St. Paul Mission Community
The St. Paul Mission Community, Portland, Oregon, is in the early stages of its evolution. Our patron saint, the Apostle Paul, inspires our focus on prayer, mission and hospitality, bringing hope to a weary world. "Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality."- Rom 12:12-13. We are laying the foundation for this ministry by living a faithful life of mission-focused prayer in this place, building relationships, and setting up a chapel and altar in our home. God being our helper, and with Bishop Scarlett’s full support, we envision a home-based, mission-focused ministry founded on prayer and hospitality. God willing, we will offer a weekly Deacon’s
Mass, evening prayer in our home chapel followed by dinner, develop spiritually-directive relationships, invite folks to retreats at a local Benedictine monastery, offer our chapel and outdoor prayer garden as spaces for individual prayer, and host St. Matthew’s Church priests occasionally for major feast day celebrations with our community. Also, it is our desire that this new mission community will actively support local and international ministries to the poor and marginalized.
