Bishop Alphonse Vascaniat Ndutiye
Outside of Yaoundé, the capital city of Cameroon, sprawls a thick tropical forest serving as home for many rural communities and villages. Without access to running water, electricity, sanitation, or medical care, the rates of infection, disease, and infant mortality are incredibly high.
Bishop Alphonse Vascaniat Ndutiye, a native Cameroonian, knows this all too well. Bishop Alphonse approached the GMC with the proposal to build a medical center that would serve these impoverished communities. With the support of St. Mary Magdalene ACC and the GMC, the St. Raphael Medicine of God Medical Clinic was built on the purchased property of Nkolmefou I Elende, providing essential medicine and care primarily to expectant mothers and villagers with indigenous diseases and work-related injuries.
With three furnished rooms and a full stock of medical supplies including pharmaceuticals, microscopes, stethoscopes, and other diagnostic equipment, the medical center provides critical care to those who would otherwise be left to suffer. Now complete with a self-sustaining water source, electricity, and a compound wall for security, local officials have agreed to send two medical professionals, Dr. Murenzi, a Nursing Director from Yaoundé and Sister Tarcille, Clinic Nurse, to the medical center on a monthly basis to attend to the villagers. Bishop Alphonse aims to continue improving the resources and care available at the medical center.
